About me
| Headline: | Greetings, fellow traditionalists! |
| About me: | I am a traditional Catholic seeking to anchor my life in the contemplation of Truth, the cultivation of Virtue, and the love of Beauty. Philosophy--in the traditional sense as the love of wisdom--and its manifold applications form the foundation of my interests, which are primarily literary, artistic, natural, and spiritual. Please note that as a Catholic traditionalist, I reject any and all of the changes instituted within Catholicism as a result of the Second Vatican Council, as well as movements leading thereto, including chiefly: the Novus Ordo Missae; the new rubrics for the Sacraments (note that as the Rites of Consecration for Holy Orders have been altered, Apostolic Succession is questionable in lines of ordination through the new rite); and the new Code of Canon Law of 1983. Regarding the papal question, I ally myself with those who espouse the position that the Sovereign Pontiff has no authority to abrogate Magisterial tradition; whether this is better framed in terms of "sedevacantism" or "a materially present but formally absent pope" is technical issue whose answer can be bracketed as long as the principle is understood. I am thus interested exclusively in the remnant traditional of Catholicism operating independently of the local diocese or the SSPX. I grew up in a setting which ranged from complete ignorance of to indifference towards religion: my family is for all practical purposes agnostic, even as they possess cultural residues of the Christianity of their youth. A relative newcomer to traditional Catholicism, to which I arrived in 2009 after an intellectual journey in pursuit of Truth, I at this point am seeking to foster spiritual and intellectual friendship with those who would lend a hand to a novice in the Third Order of Saint Francis. My spiritual life is grounded in the simplicity enjoined by the Rule of this Order, instituted by the Seraphic Father for laymen, and my prayer life is formed by devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary in the recitation of the Most Holy Rosary. I encourage the daily prayer of Our Lady's Psalter. My "leisure" time is most often spent in reading and prayer. Outside of the oratory, virgin nature provides my greatest sanctuary, and never fails to serve, as I've come to find, as a wonderful backdrop for conversation and prayer alike. I find both pleasure and repose in exploring the beauty of the natural world through longer walks and hikes through forest. Though I am not averse to playing certain sports--I played basketball and soccer regularly while younger, and ran track and cross country through college--these no longer hold priority among my interests. With interests in comparative religion and intellectual history, the sacred scriptures of the world's revealed traditions, as well as the works of their saints and sages, comprise my generally preferred reading material. I have come to love the Christian art of Mediaeval Europe, especially in the realm of music, as well as that poetry which retained this spirit even through the so-called Renaissance. I am of Hungarian descent, and betoken a characteristically Eastern European physiognomy. I have a rather contemplative temperament, the fruit of which, as I hope to have made known, is poetic but precise expression; however, I realize that my tendency to articulation may seem to some pretentious or even intimidating, though such is by no means my intention; one will soon enough find that I am far from being humorless--if anything, the opposite is true. I suppose, given the world in which we find ourselves, that I could at first glance be taken for a hippie rather than a Mediaevalist, but I'll leave such judgments to my interlocutors' discretion. |
| Looking for: | I seek a profoundly noble soul: one who loves beauty, and, in so doing, seeks with all their being to assimilate it. As such, I would like my match to be articulate, as this quality expresses reverence for language (Christ is, after all, the divine Logos or Word) if not a certain intellectual capacity. While I would be much obliged were my match to share interests in philosophy and theology, I am at the very least seeking one with what may be called a capacity for an intuitive discernment of spirits; i.e., in the field of Christian sacred art, being able to discern the intrinsic (though subtle) superiority of Mediaeval as opposed to Renaissance art. Though I live in the United States, I have little sympathy for the so-called culture of America; my soul longs in its stead for the Europe of the Ages of Faith, and thus I seek a lady of European ancestry with a traditional mentality and an aristocratic temperament. |
